Purchasing
As with most campuses, a lot of purchasing at SIUC is highly decentralized. Yet, many campus wide sustainable purchasing decisions are made and various departments are also purchasing more sustainably at SIUC.
Campus wide lavatory paper towels have 100% recycled content (40% post-consumer) and toilet paper has recycled content.
Campus wide printing services utilizes 30 - 100% post cosumer content. They also use an environmentally friendly solid ink technology in all their printers. Campus Printing and Duplicating uses soy bean based ink.
Various food and coffee purchases are organic, local, and fair trade. Fair Trade coffee is served at the new Saluki Oasis convenience store in the Student Center and Delyte's in Morris Library.

The University Bookstore in the Student Center sells various sustainable products including recycled content printing paper, notebooks, and index cards, environmentally friendly pens, pencils, and highlighters, organic hygiene products, and has featured several book series related to sustainability.
We use Green Seal certified cleaning products to maintain the majority of campus buildings. By using biodegradable soaps and cleaners we protect both our employees and the environment. Similarly, University Housing and the Student Center also use green cleaning products.
The College of Liberal Arts (CoLA) Council Committee on Sustainability has begun a small project to study and hopefully improve the amount of post-consumer content (PCC) paper purchased by CoLA departments and programs. Learn More >>>
