SIUC employs construction techniques and systems that are energy efficient, conserve resources, and employ green architecture to comply with ASHRAE Standard 90.1.
State funding was recently approved for the construction of a LEED silver certified Transportation Education Center (TEC). The TEC will house SIUC's automotive technology and aviation management programs. This will be SIUC's first LEED certified building.
A green roof renovation of the Agriculture Buiding began this summer. This will be SIUC's first green roof.
Plans are underway to build a green dorm, coined the Gaia House, on the SIUC campus. Architecture students and faculty have been working extensively with the University Christian Minitries's Interfaith Center staff on developing this project.
